Why did the British want to establish in Pacific Northwest?

Posted by admin on December 29th, 2009 filed in Gold Rush

Before the time of the Gold Rush, the British wanted to establish a strong presence in Pacific Northwest, which is now BC. What reasons did they have for doing this? Was there a geographic advantage, or some other advantage? Or was it all about the fur trade and the "Northwest passage"?

they wanted to put all the asylum seekers there
